I know "WWII planes in space" isn't realistic, but it's what Chris Roberts wants it to be and this is his baby. Where it needs to, gameplay and the "cool factor" take precedence over what is realistic. It's not based on reality, it just approaches some aspects realisticly to immerse you into the world. Sure, call it a space sim all you want, it's still a computergame. In that regard, CIG's designers haven't let me down. Not believable, no matter how well your engine renders them.įirst of all, I'm not easy to please, I just look at these ships within context of the universe.įrom a visual design standpoint the ships look realistic, that doesn't mean they ARE. They are just products of illusion and distortion. Ryan Church has contributed excellent ships.īiggest part of the issue is CR pushing for ww2 airplanes in space, which results in chimeras, that make neither realistic space ships nor realistic airplanes. True, some of the external designers CIG has hired have qualifications. With some serious scrutiny, you'll find that less than 25% of their ships would stand up to a design review of real-world product (car / ship) designers.ĬIG only has one professional product designer, the rest are no more than design-hobbyists with game production / 3D-modeling on their resume.
